In two months, I built an entire website and by doing all the original reporting, editing and production of videos, photos and text elements to tell the story of a plan to improve broadband Internet access in Urbana-Champaign, Ill.
On May 17, 2010, I was awarded fourth place in the Hearst Journalism Awards Multimedia Competition for my work on this site. The honor came in the 50th year of the prestigious college journalism award and earned $750 for both myself and the Department of Journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
